Interdisciplinary Studies - Accounting Applications
VCU
The Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies: “Accounting Applications” pathway combines BIS Core courses with coursework, minors, and/or certificates in at least two of five skill-driven clusters:
- Management & Innovation
- General Business
- Actuarial Science
- Sports & Fitness Management
- Nonprofit Management
- Public Management
- Product Innovation
- Venture Creation
- Communications
- Media Studies
- Professional Writing & Editing
- Analytics

- Professional & Social Service:
- Criminal Justice
- Environmental Studies

Please note that any student along this pathway may tailor their degree beyond the options listed above. Students may also choose from only one of the clusters above if they include accounting courses in their focus area or if they choose two, non-School of Business options included in a cluster (e.g., political science & social welfare).
Please note that the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies is not awarded by the School of Business. Non-business majors at VCU are allowed to complete up to 30 credits of coursework offered by the School of Business, including transfer credit. Students entering VCU via this pathway will only be eligible to receive the general business, actuarial science, or sports & fitness management minors from the School of Business.
This pathway positions students for a range of careers depending on their choice of coursework: accounting in public, private, and entrepreneurial settings, data analytics, accounting instruction, business ownership and creation, and more. Some coursework requires declaring a minor to access; some minors require a minimum GPA; advisors in the Interdisciplinary Studies program will help you navigate those requirements. Upon graduation, students will be awarded the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies and likely 1-2 minors or certificates.
BIS graduates with a focus in “Applications of Accounting” are well prepared to seek employment in corporate, nonprofit and government agencies.
