Nursing, R.N.-B.S. Completion Program, Bachelor of Science
VCU
The Guaranteed Admission Agreement for nursing provides a pathway for students to progress from the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Nursing degree directly to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-BS Completion Program) at Virginia Commonwealth University. To be guaranteed admission, a student must: 1) complete the AAS in Nursing degree; 2) earn a minimum cumulative college-level GPA of 3.0; 3) earn a minimum grade of “B” in all the required nursing (NSG) classes for the AAS degree; and 4) earn a minimum grade of “C” in all the other required classes for the AAS and AA&S degrees.
Registered nurses (RNs) care for patients, providing them with treatment, counseling and education. RNs work closely with a patient’s physicians and other health professionals as part of the healthcare team. Depending on their area of specialization and work setting, RNs perform some or all of the following:
- develop and implement individualized plans for a patient’s care.
- monitor and record patients’ needs and changing conditions.
- administer prescribed medications and treatments.
- educate individuals on self-care, including maintaining health and preventing illness/injury.
The RN to BS program provides a pathway for licensed registered nurses to earn a BS degree in nursing. The program allows RNs to add knowledge and skills in order to take on greater responsibility in health care. The BS will assist nurses who wish to have a role in leadership as well as provide mobility in a growing profession. The BS can also lead to advancing education in graduate programs.
